Are you single? WELL,we have something for YOU to check out! Filmed by the same team who produced episodes of Real World for MTV, we had the pleasure of interviewing The Head of Marketing and Creative of The Setup, Myra Gofdrey.

The team behind The Setup also released a dating app that helps people find better matches for them, currently available only for daters in Boston!

Now what is the setup?

"The idea for The Setup came as a group of people (including our founders) were discussing dating apps in general and how much more fun it is to set other people up than it is to swipe right for yourself. That led to the idea of a matching app, where users get to set up daters with potentially compatible people.

The web-series is a companion to the app, to further encourage people to get out and get dating. People often times dread the dating process and we’re hoping the web-series will convince them to rethink that position by watching real people’s setups, preparations and first date experiences."

What types of personalities should we expect to see on the show?

"You should expect to see real people, not personalities. We’re casting real people who we think might be compatible and following them around with a camera to see how this Setup dating experience goes."

Who are the cast?

"The first season of the web-series has been fully cast from single millennial daters in Boston, Massachusetts."

How does the app work?

"Once you download the app, you set up a profile and choose if you want to just use the app as a matcher (which all app users are), or if you also want to be a dater. If you want to date, you have the option to set your dating preferences.

Once your profile is created, you’ll be able to match daters together by pinching together a couple you think is a good fit. Basically, you’ll have two profiles appear side by side. You can click on each person’s picture to learn more about them, and if you think the two are a match, you pinch the two profiles together, or slide right as you would in any other dating app. If they are not a match, slide left to reject the potential couple. Once numerous matchers match the same couple, that couple will be notified that they have been “set up” and can start chatting.

After the couple begins a conversation, this “setup” can upload comments, pictures and videos about their interactions and dates, which the matchers who set them up can follow along with in their feed."

How does it differentiate from dating apps like tinder/bumble etc?

"In many dating apps, a dater swipes right on a person they like to get a match, or has a compatible match sent to them. In The Setup App, daters get matches when enough matchers have set them up with the same person. This uses the wisdom and intuition of real people, not AI or algorithms.

Another important distinction is the social sharing feature of The Setup App. Daters can leave comments about their dates and upload photos or videos into the app, which all the matchers who set the couple up will see in their feed. Matchers can then “like” and interact with these posts, just like in traditional social media channels, giving them the ability to see the fruits of their matching efforts."

"The webseries is viewable on your Youtube channel, and will also be available directly on our website at www.thesetup.tv beginning September 7th. The app is currently available for download in the app store on iOS under “The Setup App”.
